Parallax Art Fair - Pictures

EDIT: Authors note or what they call it... ;) This post is from october last year. I wanted to edit the text in it, and did not realize that by editing it and 'updating' it also became my latest post instead of staying on the timeline where it belonged of last year! Apparently I still have a lot to learn about blogger...

So, a dip in the past, enjoy the photos: (Again... ;-) )

October 2012:

I finally got the pictures from my London trip uploaded to the computer and organized, so now I can show you what the Parallax Art Fair looked like!

Hanging day on Friday the 12th October before the opening the same evening.

As you can see here, I am all done!

The fair from the outside, at the Chelsea Old Town Hall.

The Opening, or private preview! Here you can see the beautiful hall we were in.

The private preview was a black tie occasion on, so everybody was nicely dressed up.

View the other way...

My corner!

And me at my corner on Saturday.

On the opening night the Finnish ambassador Mr Pekka Huhtaniemi with his wife came to visit the fair and me, and I appreciated that very much: thank you for visiting me! They were a lovely couple!

On Saturday the London based journalist for HBL from Finland Kerstin Lindman-Strafford came, and we too had a lovely chat.
On saturday I also sold one of my small 20x20cm paintings (the orange painting, if you look closely on the last photo you can see the small red dot under it...).

Next post will be about the rest of the trip, so you can prepare for a lot of pictures of castles and 'old' Great Britain!

  1. Hi there,
I found you via a general google search as I'm doing some research on the Parallax fair. I've been asked to contribute to one coming up, and wanted to look further into it to make sure it wasn't a scam or something. These photos of yours look great! I would have emailed but cant find a mailto. Do you think it was worth it to be a part of the art fair? Did you find it professional? I'm worried whether it's worth it financially. Thanks for any info, Clair

it's not, it's a nightmare. it's more vanity exhibit and i wouldn't recommend it. i've also read a few reviews and experiences and most are that of a poorly planned situation where you are pretty much left without assistance in case something arises and many must supply their own faculty.

    1. If you live close by and have no other expenses than the hire-fee itself you can always give it a try. As you can see from the pictures it looked great (or I thought so) and the only negative feedback I have of the fair was it's low footfall of visitors.

  5. Ditto, doing some research the feedback is mostly negative, so I think I'm going to pass.

    1. Yes, there are a lot of negative comments about the fair. I thought it worked well (but I had no problems and needed no help from the staff, so I cannot give an accurate feedback from how it was for those who needed help) and looked great, and the only negative feedback I have of the fair was its low numbers of visitors.

  7. It's 2016 now and I gave the art fair a try. It was not worth it for me at all. Not financially nor ideologically. You met lovely people and might see some good art and crafts but it's not worth the money as sales are really really low. This year some people sold but most people didn't. Do your research. Look at the art exhibited, see if it's right for you. Photography and prints sold this year. Try to find out beforehand where in the space you are positioned. You can be really unlucky and very compromised in attracting attention due to logistic problems. Lots of people come to only look at art, have no intention to buy. Prepare for a chaotic installation. Be vary of shipping your work and not actually being present. I hope that helps.

  8. The art fair charges artists for a pitch and then gets it packed it out with free ticketed entrance widely marketed on Eventbright. The few sympathetic staff that are hired are overwhelmed, and are pretty much left to it by the organisers who are not present. I shall not attend again as the installation was chaotic and most artists don't sell, some do if lucky. I have just discovered the organiser is a Trump sympathiser and belittles the efforts of the supporters of the women's march openly on social media.
I wish everyone success. Perhaps the art fair may change, but until it does it's better pay commission when you sell.
