I am so lucky to be able to travel the way I do, but I have to confess that I do not want to see an aeroplane again soon for a while...<br />
<br />
I decided to take a break from social media after writing from Canada. I could not get Blogger to work properly on my iPad, so I decided to just enjoy living in the now and all my new adventures!<br />
<br />
We spend 10 days in Sechelt, a small town outside Vancouver. After that, we travelled south to New Orleans. We spend two fun weeks in the city of music. It really is a crazy city. But crazy in a fun way. After that, we flew to LA to spend a couple days with my travel companions daughter before returning to Shanghai.<br />
<br />
That was one month worth of travelling. But it did not end there, because only a week after I returned to Shanghai I flew to Finland to help my mother in law move house. I spend 2 weeks in my hometown. The spring was in full bloom, and it was absolutely lovely!<br />
<br />
Now I am back in Shanghai and in my studio. I have been thinking a lot about how to continue with this blog. I have been using Blogger for quite many years now. It is a very user-friendly blog, and especially adding pictures is super easy. But now I think I would like to focus more on my website and one step in that direction would be to move my blog there. The blog feature of my website (hosted by wix.com) is not as easy to use, but I guess it will be after I get used to using it... I will probably take advantage of the move and rebrand my content a little bit. I am not sure exactly how yet, so I will try a few things out and see how it goes. The focus will, of course, still be on art.<br />
<br />
So next week I hope to see you on my website! I will drop in here and post the link to my new blog when I have it up and running! See you soon!<br />
<br />Jenny Moed-Korpelahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606892768486269110noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1675381421746759431.post-54144760401769396212019-03-31T13:09:00.001+08:002019-03-31T13:09:49.187+08:00Greetings from CanadaThis week I am in Canada. More precicely a little northwest of Vancouver in a small village called Sechelt. It is absolutely stunning here. Reminds me a lot of the nature back home in Finland, but bigger and with majestic mountains. The weather has been fantastic, the food has been yummy, and my hosts are the best! I will be here until Friday, after we travel south to New Orleans.<br />
<br />
I am travelling with my bestie Rain. She was born here in this corner of Canada, and it is so nice to be taken around all the best places. Unfortunately I can not get blogger to work properly on my ipad, so I am not able to share any pictures. I can upload pictures, but then it will not let me scroll down to add any text under them. It is weird. Oh well, pictures just have to wait until I am home I guess.Jenny Moed-Korpelahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606892768486269110noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1675381421746759431.post-1931732576152047182019-03-23T12:36:00.002+08:002019-03-23T12:36:26.501+08:00Art journal experiments with recycled paintings.Greetings from Kerinci, Indonesia. We are enjoying tropical weather and getting spoiled rotten by our hosts! I will share some photos from here next week when I have gotten them downloaded to one place. Until then I have some art journal pages that I haven't shared with you yet.<br />
<br />
It is not always that my watercolour efforts result in finished paintings. If I do not love it, I recycle it. This way I feel like the time I spend painting a watercolour that failed wasn't totally wasted, and I can turn them into sketches for future paintings. It is a great way of trying out and experimenting with backgrounds. I cut out the subject, and glue them in my art journal on new and different backgrounds.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVuSD9mvtnosq6Sl4D10GgORJTuj-nAOkuifTUajDt5gk870CWZl0Fl5rNvd18jlU_02q7BwblrQRg6vsQTRh1k383hMxrPgn-59Ux_kvkSK3mBSfyE3LJgWrf5A0ByvLmJKB0A5iSJJQ/s1600/artjournal1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="721" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVuSD9mvtnosq6Sl4D10GgORJTuj-nAOkuifTUajDt5gk870CWZl0Fl5rNvd18jlU_02q7BwblrQRg6vsQTRh1k383hMxrPgn-59Ux_kvkSK3mBSfyE3LJgWrf5A0ByvLmJKB0A5iSJJQ/s640/artjournal1.JPG" width="460" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This Blacked-Capped chickadee is from a watercolour where I tried to use salt in the background. The result wasn't too bad, but I didn't love it. I had another idea for it, so this is what it became. I like these colours, so I will probably try and paint it again on watercolour paper like this. (Reference photo from Joe Price from the facebook group Photos for artists.)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSOzQSEjmUGRZPbrbolCeWJkmJCS4_KtmMtdixcS71kHDOlWWHAZbZggN7dRylOSjuc47_wtv4RRyFyLGfMvac5_49jU8aVX8zImwFXgNJDV-0tofR7HbHWa5gctrdl00hztxVW4bDb8s/s1600/artjournal2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="757" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSOzQSEjmUGRZPbrbolCeWJkmJCS4_KtmMtdixcS71kHDOlWWHAZbZggN7dRylOSjuc47_wtv4RRyFyLGfMvac5_49jU8aVX8zImwFXgNJDV-0tofR7HbHWa5gctrdl00hztxVW4bDb8s/s640/artjournal2.JPG" width="484" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another chickadee that got recycled. I think I chose the wrong kind of paper for my first attempt at a watercolour painting for this one. I used cold pressed paper, but I think I need hot pressed paper to get the effect I want. This background is painted with watercolour on a gessoed page, the same as the previous page. (Reference photo from Joe Price from the facebook group Photos for artists.)</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This and the next owl is from the inktober challenge that I participated in. Neither of them became something that I was totally happy with, so I decided to try out two different coloured backgrounds in my art journal for them. The owls are painted in ink and acrylic inks, but the backgrounds are again with watercolour on a gesso. </div>

They are pygmy owls, and the reference photo is from Pixabay.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My art journal is getting quite thick, and I do not have many pages left in it. It will soon be time to film a 'flip through' of it. Long-tailed tit. I am still not sure what kind of background I would like for this small cutie, but this was one experiment. (Ref .photo by Peter Skillen from the FB-group 'Photos for artists')</div>

And last but not least I have a finished painting. Venus slipper orchid, acrylic and oil on canvas, 40x30 cm.</div>

I spend about 2 hours walking around the park today photographing magnolia flowers. The first white magnolias are out, and the pink will follow in a day or two. What a pleasant way to spend an afternoon!<br />
<br />
I think I can safely say that I can see magnolia paintings in the future... But it might take some time though because I will be travelling for the next month or so. Next week we will travel to visit our friends in Indonesia, and then I will continue to Vancouver and New Orleans. I will probably leave my computer at home so blogging will be at a minimum while I am away. I have never blogged from my iPhone, but maybe I can figure out how to do it.<br />
<br />
But for now, I will leave you with a little selection from today's 'harvest', I hope you enjoy!<br />

It feels like it was yesterday that it was Monday.<br />
<br />
Today felt like the first real day of spring. I'm waiting for the magnolias and cherry blossoms to start to bloom. That is always one of the highlights of the year here in Shanghai.<br />
<br />
Onto what I have been up to in the studio this week:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBhyphenhyphenvmU9-Dz2DSPXz4Fh1_BpGRXSQbEf-Y6fHVQiAjPvS7IbnWV2hoOass4iVHNyUicmXTAuSnQBaceAYdMXb1t4VtoVGSkbQ_UAaQMneTTYkWczpiEiUggO4Ugb9YREnQsxCyrWBdP0c/s1600/avocet1000.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="740" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBhyphenhyphenvmU9-Dz2DSPXz4Fh1_BpGRXSQbEf-Y6fHVQiAjPvS7IbnWV2hoOass4iVHNyUicmXTAuSnQBaceAYdMXb1t4VtoVGSkbQ_UAaQMneTTYkWczpiEiUggO4Ugb9YREnQsxCyrWBdP0c/s640/avocet1000.jpeg" width="472" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
'Morning Light'. Acrylic and oil on canvas, 40x30 cm. I got the last details done on this avocet painting today. It turned out rather well I think, and I had a lot of fun painting it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzgM9FpEG_tGLk8I592AUIzkOqqHclfrMpUTgpSSfSVdbsrFR4rkKMYLnhAsahlP53RlkxbHXnmQF-WSL8BPxvRKExBumW3Zjj1PDFFebOhioIqhbQ_-1xxyckHbLxGHfXLCdoynYJqbg/s1600/IMG_8966.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzgM9FpEG_tGLk8I592AUIzkOqqHclfrMpUTgpSSfSVdbsrFR4rkKMYLnhAsahlP53RlkxbHXnmQF-WSL8BPxvRKExBumW3Zjj1PDFFebOhioIqhbQ_-1xxyckHbLxGHfXLCdoynYJqbg/s640/IMG_8966.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I played around in my art journal a little with compositions. I like the more abstract background on the right page.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYQ7hQhY1OrycVhixsbTdhxriBZ1xphRRYBca1NGs6lyzvDFjztzbMQVHRaCuJX7Pjt9x4uz17W84HpiZWhY5IeSm7C0s9C8BdjclWr02HeOr8iPJSqnMBc1ssLKI5Ybzbqu7i1Oz-d1s/s1600/IMG_8973.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYQ7hQhY1OrycVhixsbTdhxriBZ1xphRRYBca1NGs6lyzvDFjztzbMQVHRaCuJX7Pjt9x4uz17W84HpiZWhY5IeSm7C0s9C8BdjclWr02HeOr8iPJSqnMBc1ssLKI5Ybzbqu7i1Oz-d1s/s640/IMG_8973.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A new orchid painting in the making. This is the first blocking in of oil colours for the flower. I do like the colours in this one!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And last I have this commissioned Peony painting that I finally was able to finish. Oil on canvas, 50x50 cm.</div>
<br />Jenny Moed-Korpelahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606892768486269110noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1675381421746759431.post-27370448479920653952019-03-02T12:52:00.000+08:002019-03-02T14:19:09.942+08:00Inspiration.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Inspiration is a funny thing. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't. It can be gone for weeks or months at a time, and then suddenly appear and stay with you for a long time. I guess that is the nature of inspiration. Not only for artists but for everyone in everyday life as well. At the moment I am enjoying a bout of inspiration, and it is absolutely lovely to come into my studio every day to create. It also helps that I finally have many paintings in different stages on the walls that I am happy with and inspires me to create more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV_xt56Eozf1QPLVWwJSj7dL1rvBEPLgUjEl83e0wkBNZI43wYLfaw3EiaT7Qbr4IDqJU0X08JyXfGENGcSVMqgALeH3r7pEvYVEOgLLGnwrK1YBc71xt4SFuODZ4AIWUfy2No38LkBSw/s1600/Solitary%25C2%25A9+1000.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="781" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV_xt56Eozf1QPLVWwJSj7dL1rvBEPLgUjEl83e0wkBNZI43wYLfaw3EiaT7Qbr4IDqJU0X08JyXfGENGcSVMqgALeH3r7pEvYVEOgLLGnwrK1YBc71xt4SFuODZ4AIWUfy2No38LkBSw/s640/Solitary%25C2%25A9+1000.jpeg" width="498" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
'Solitary'. Acrylic and oil on canvas, 45x35cm. My first painting in a long time that I have been able to upload to my website. This is Jonathan the seagull. Named after Jonathan Livingston Seagull, after the novel by Richard Bach. If you have not read the book, I can highly recommend it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0QGMjeDNjKqxK_swl3g_QYEtQSY8eofhcIG1R0jMdqC-SO94ApObPolcDjayzog7jO0hRtaiMdBeHX7OTc3dcZIuzgZfI7blZuUFj7WeLhymxuRfiAslQHdRx7aSw_aKqI7XbgaIfY-k/s1600/photoshop1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1036" data-original-width="1600" height="414" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0QGMjeDNjKqxK_swl3g_QYEtQSY8eofhcIG1R0jMdqC-SO94ApObPolcDjayzog7jO0hRtaiMdBeHX7OTc3dcZIuzgZfI7blZuUFj7WeLhymxuRfiAslQHdRx7aSw_aKqI7XbgaIfY-k/s640/photoshop1.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I painted this background with a crested tit in mind, but when I turned the canvas upside down to let it dry, I suddenly saw a landscape with flying swans. I imported the background to photoshop and added 3 flying swans to it. This swan is from Pixabay, a reference photo I immediately thought of for this painting. I was lazy, so I just cut and pasted it three times to try out this composition. It works really well I think. I love it when paintings sometimes seem to paint themselves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZxMDBPf4vyd7XZT7lAsy1-B2fFHMyqxqzGBYHU0TAt05cJ2LK895Jv464u4CdJuVj03EDOEFghWfYXS_oSL0FTeZ4MYBjHg0eFp9seIJcidQprw58zg0UG5OTMXh0olkJk8CBzOpLFI/s1600/IMG_8951.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="765" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZxMDBPf4vyd7XZT7lAsy1-B2fFHMyqxqzGBYHU0TAt05cJ2LK895Jv464u4CdJuVj03EDOEFghWfYXS_oSL0FTeZ4MYBjHg0eFp9seIJcidQprw58zg0UG5OTMXh0olkJk8CBzOpLFI/s640/IMG_8951.JPG" width="488" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These two avocets are almost done, I have painted some more on them, and now I think that just one final layer is needed and they will be done. I want to add a few more details to the feathers, and a few more reflections to the water.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil4HFoDuCd_NaYWAXcbJSmMXFDlGUBJIkWNRvZ76lilyVwIwkfrNE7-oo4QXXJsWXEUp06MTVH4Nk5JmZyCB5bSSTov5v6S3FpbmmRjnSQmpZq2UXGWAeG558A8D0o-KCd109Klbpfi-A/s1600/IMG_8952.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="753" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil4HFoDuCd_NaYWAXcbJSmMXFDlGUBJIkWNRvZ76lilyVwIwkfrNE7-oo4QXXJsWXEUp06MTVH4Nk5JmZyCB5bSSTov5v6S3FpbmmRjnSQmpZq2UXGWAeG558A8D0o-KCd109Klbpfi-A/s640/IMG_8952.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This avocet is also almost done. Just a few more details to the feathers, and I will be happy with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That was it for this week. I wish you all a great weekend!</div>

It feels like I am on a roll lately. I guess that is what happens when you have a lot of inspiration and ideas that you want to get done with paint on canvas. You can have a year of just 'being' in the studio doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that without actually finish a piece of art. And then suddenly it seems like everything fall into place and you can not get your ideas down fast enough. But that is the nature of inspiration. For me it has also had to do with that I wasn't happy with the direction my art was going, and I wanted a change. It felt like it took a long time before I was able to physically get down on paper or canvas what I saw in my head. Now it seems that it is finally going in the right direction. (In the right direction for me, that is.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I first started to paint people asked what I wanted to paint, or what I aspired to. My answer was that I wanted to paint like Rembrandt. Not subject matters, but the way he painted light. I think that is what I have been missing in my own paintings lately. I like them, but I realized that I thought they were 'flat'. I missed the atmosphere and the light that I so admired ( and still do!) in for example Rembrandts paintings. My paintings now probably don't look that much different compared to before, if I am honest. I still paint a realistic subject against an abstract background. I guess it is more my way of approaching the subject that has shifted so that I am more aware of the lights and the darks in a painting. I guess that what I am trying to say is that the atmosphere in my paintings now relates more closely to my vision of them than what they did before. Sometimes it is the small things that matter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiraGbwJXbFZiDJigTqiV2YvSSrpwN-MyfrwjVEncgVNToFO-itEjlz-FBSzsrFFqP5EUPZdXOwyhIKNwSTaHGXs905WW0oJgJVkT6I0__y86QUEG5IZBtCBgjjmwyJ5So81XJvwDGhuq8/s1600/1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="738" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiraGbwJXbFZiDJigTqiV2YvSSrpwN-MyfrwjVEncgVNToFO-itEjlz-FBSzsrFFqP5EUPZdXOwyhIKNwSTaHGXs905WW0oJgJVkT6I0__y86QUEG5IZBtCBgjjmwyJ5So81XJvwDGhuq8/s640/1.JPG" width="472" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This avocet painting has gone through quite a lot of changes. That is what I love about acrylics. You can repaint as many times as you want until it is what you want it to be. First I thought that I wanted to introduce some blue colours to it, but it didn't turn out well. So I painted over the whole background and decided that I wanted to paint this warm atmosphere for it. There will still be some blue shadows in the birds when they are done. Because I also wanted to paint this with blue colours, I decided to start painting another avocet painting: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvmafDFa0TD75NIyvimUOfcEUSywxNE9NutwpMEO8s0RhgoSJkKTysyHFG5Ij2o3KM4VfSXNbEpTOoSgYKItKZ6sPz6cMEnLrckyjPD3o4v5U_TXurFIWkMo6U4lev_UH9GkyGQlyu8Bo/s1600/2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvmafDFa0TD75NIyvimUOfcEUSywxNE9NutwpMEO8s0RhgoSJkKTysyHFG5Ij2o3KM4VfSXNbEpTOoSgYKItKZ6sPz6cMEnLrckyjPD3o4v5U_TXurFIWkMo6U4lev_UH9GkyGQlyu8Bo/s640/2.JPG" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was the first layer of colour. I only used acrylic Paynes grey. I love the background just as it is here, but because it was done on canvas it looked unfinished. So I added more paint. But I think I will paint this again with watercolours because then I can leave it as it is like this.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFAQNxNc-DThLFC8yvr2sQHSu4KtvcXURKG0ih_fKh-9JFcmmZgLpwbiqPX9DM7E_LyTUjDcQCVXHRfJI62Hxen7CYh_-LWKkMSd7pwb-txsFKkvOzRPG-ivWWlw_aBtaE7U9gLFI2A5I/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="742" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFAQNxNc-DThLFC8yvr2sQHSu4KtvcXURKG0ih_fKh-9JFcmmZgLpwbiqPX9DM7E_LyTUjDcQCVXHRfJI62Hxen7CYh_-LWKkMSd7pwb-txsFKkvOzRPG-ivWWlw_aBtaE7U9gLFI2A5I/s640/3.jpg" width="474" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here it is with a few more layers of acrylic colours. I also added a little bit of quinacridone nickel azo gold, just to try and get that blue colours to pop more. I painted the avocet in oil colours, and it will need at least one more layer. I also need to remember to add some warm yellow tones to the white feathers so that it corresponds with the background.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxUwf-UKoVy7gQ-YTRwbDKO2U_D-BUJRNb6O9MQuLgVIlqe-Vf6dzcv5CGOh-PnUU6KL3F-QYlV3jDg-hvnCIKP6PAR5TdnKbMKqSWIAlQKlj6gwawjs2MGYYA2AdlV6S1uGXdveuikwQ/s1600/4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxUwf-UKoVy7gQ-YTRwbDKO2U_D-BUJRNb6O9MQuLgVIlqe-Vf6dzcv5CGOh-PnUU6KL3F-QYlV3jDg-hvnCIKP6PAR5TdnKbMKqSWIAlQKlj6gwawjs2MGYYA2AdlV6S1uGXdveuikwQ/s640/4.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a watercolour I did almost a year ago, and I always meant to turn it into a painting on canvas. Now I decided that it was time.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeznHkfTzgqF83m_wZmT-yRhFqHxgZhbU4b2D-0mO9CHm5FDnH_OtzVUdiwVp0E-QRpAhgFHDdh7KILPfHswLo-PkKlXaaK7f2bNVM4JDkLhtAqpHVoKfaFpoHiJPRX_dF59NUisQpB9E/s1600/5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeznHkfTzgqF83m_wZmT-yRhFqHxgZhbU4b2D-0mO9CHm5FDnH_OtzVUdiwVp0E-QRpAhgFHDdh7KILPfHswLo-PkKlXaaK7f2bNVM4JDkLhtAqpHVoKfaFpoHiJPRX_dF59NUisQpB9E/s640/5.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The background is done in acrylic paint. Maybe not as interesting as the watercolour background, but I struggled with painting the Eagleowl in watercolours.</div>

Here is the first blocking in with oil colours for the Eagleowl. This is one of the birds that are on my bucket list to see in real life. The reference photo for this is from Pixabay.</div>

It has been a rainy week, so it feels like it has been a perpetual evening since Monday! But as usual it has been cosy in the studio, so I don't mind what kind of weather it is outside.<br />
I feel like I have gotten quite a lot done this week. A good week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxgY8qYeewCrC20KXr46GCiy4P16KTArd6vAo54Ge_R_X5dHWuiAdWMqdRNISrxME3vlVlcVMKlhfRoKOPZFBvq2qwlzqrQ3yCqNOdPlLW_NCSilGLR8rLiJoVYf3vcVSCELGrL27DZQg/s1600/1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxgY8qYeewCrC20KXr46GCiy4P16KTArd6vAo54Ge_R_X5dHWuiAdWMqdRNISrxME3vlVlcVMKlhfRoKOPZFBvq2qwlzqrQ3yCqNOdPlLW_NCSilGLR8rLiJoVYf3vcVSCELGrL27DZQg/s640/1.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I like to stand and paint when I am painting my backgrounds, so this little table easel has been in use every day this week. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwSV7viq0ClRGpn-0Htpm4h_GzR1QWCXO-VPQOX5scj6QIsb0g1bZUtLtxhldppCOyBhqIEoMedq9onxV_dORTXNkpDu99O0VJBRS9f41RJDrQoBAM_83mGalLop153CGzXpZXZmA-zCY/s1600/2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwSV7viq0ClRGpn-0Htpm4h_GzR1QWCXO-VPQOX5scj6QIsb0g1bZUtLtxhldppCOyBhqIEoMedq9onxV_dORTXNkpDu99O0VJBRS9f41RJDrQoBAM_83mGalLop153CGzXpZXZmA-zCY/s640/2.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started this seagull before leaving for Beihai. The idea was right, but I felt like I painted the gull a little too big for the canvas, and it bothered me. The half realistic background was also not what I saw in my head. So I painted over this and started again.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF-v7RkzCDZRDBjR7c072h2cr95Lusn1PkDjJjFPiwVRBNajXF20wOSmW900R3xK2ODG8bg7f5upxqnQgLZH9rQoy4x3EEYGRhF_AkdGnATIEdFP-89B1d-zbKXYaO64QIydOidxLRY4Q/s1600/3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF-v7RkzCDZRDBjR7c072h2cr95Lusn1PkDjJjFPiwVRBNajXF20wOSmW900R3xK2ODG8bg7f5upxqnQgLZH9rQoy4x3EEYGRhF_AkdGnATIEdFP-89B1d-zbKXYaO64QIydOidxLRY4Q/s640/3.JPG" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is the new version. This one feels right to me. I am happy with the feeling of the background, so now it is time to take out the oil colours and paint that seagull. I like that the brushstrokes are showing so I will try and use the dry brush technique with the oil as much as possible. Let's see if I succeed.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinqyqGZb2W5DkzsNXbSViddRwuHJyN90Ddph36f4dQW4X2bYqH5RpLaIKaR5i6Uc6-jlTHZPXdqibVHpDq9gmrt_Xv2bFN039xVIxdDCvcMXysdBoA4etg3Kqy-v6QtbhL_qTTdxxNIdE/s1600/4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinqyqGZb2W5DkzsNXbSViddRwuHJyN90Ddph36f4dQW4X2bYqH5RpLaIKaR5i6Uc6-jlTHZPXdqibVHpDq9gmrt_Xv2bFN039xVIxdDCvcMXysdBoA4etg3Kqy-v6QtbhL_qTTdxxNIdE/s640/4.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Avocets got quite a few layers, but none that I was happy with. So this is how it looks now. I will start again!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtrbVPRkln-0d8oP0XB_K8oH3lbby6VZY0MIDuB_qDUCZEoriszJjBGs4yXpR16lq5KFoz59mP-7jasyrd4LDGpTLVejkVpTShFD39eGh4f0RVqYIZayneDLQWVzANhMVhvdsNaB8-9x0/s1600/5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtrbVPRkln-0d8oP0XB_K8oH3lbby6VZY0MIDuB_qDUCZEoriszJjBGs4yXpR16lq5KFoz59mP-7jasyrd4LDGpTLVejkVpTShFD39eGh4f0RVqYIZayneDLQWVzANhMVhvdsNaB8-9x0/s640/5.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I got a new idea for an old Owl painting. I printed out the owl from my old painting on a sheet of paper and cut it out. Now I can test it against my new background while I'm painting. I think I kinda like it this simple. I will experiment with a few more ideas, and then show you what I decided.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Greetings from Beihai. (Beihai is a small coastal city in the south of China close to Vietnam) My husband came here on a business trip, and I joined him for a few days. The Chinese new year celebration was fun, and we found some awesome fireworks that we fired on the beach. I say 'found' because it took us a trip outside the city before we found a place to buy some bigger fireworks. Chinese do know how to make fireworks though. What a show we had with only a few big boxes! The video below is a clip from only one of the boxes we had. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Eurasian tree sparrows. This was an experiment. The birds would have been better composed a little differently, and I think that the background is a little too dark.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7hZCm12Wmg0IBdAojjIq3v5rCGXmMX2W5TOvb2WQ4Gkhj2tqKNzwpyUgKBoBDdM0clVr6sQUcICXSSXsYsUGKeoeN6VZIl6NXc13jl7Tsx83hGG3VHgnZm8WPE1yMsI92-Y6G-rP5sw0/s1600/IMG_8800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="631" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7hZCm12Wmg0IBdAojjIq3v5rCGXmMX2W5TOvb2WQ4Gkhj2tqKNzwpyUgKBoBDdM0clVr6sQUcICXSSXsYsUGKeoeN6VZIl6NXc13jl7Tsx83hGG3VHgnZm8WPE1yMsI92-Y6G-rP5sw0/s640/IMG_8800.jpg" width="448" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another attempt at the tree sparrow, and this time both the composition and the background are better balanced.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what I was working on before flying south to Beihai. Two avocets. I tinted the canvas with ochre acrylic paint, and then I drew in my two birds. Reference from Pixabay. That is a great site to find reference material by the way!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4r-g4jZLRF-fy74PlrOtW6dgMRJjWxw0UpZOMPtwIi88LMQ_jFhCYqwG94Gk1MjJ3XgsVwBxYjzFAWedw7p82huPNAxIPulv_aG4PJMOeCDiiKMfY2ielP4O31Z7CE21rl2xg0Lowq3Q/s1600/IMG_8727.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="675" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4r-g4jZLRF-fy74PlrOtW6dgMRJjWxw0UpZOMPtwIi88LMQ_jFhCYqwG94Gk1MjJ3XgsVwBxYjzFAWedw7p82huPNAxIPulv_aG4PJMOeCDiiKMfY2ielP4O31Z7CE21rl2xg0Lowq3Q/s320/IMG_8727.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I liked the placing of the birds, so I painted them with a layer of acrylic colours. I think I might continue with some blue colours when I return to my studio. I also want to lighten up the upper part of the background. The great thing with beginning a new painting with acrylic paint is that you can paint over and start again if you do not like something you tried. And this is very much an experiment!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tomorrow I will return to Shanghai and my studio. I love travelling, but I also do love returning to my studio! Have a great weekend everyone!</div>

We are saying goodbye to the year of the dog and welcoming the year of the pig. It is also the last year of the 12 years Chinese zodiac cycle, which means that next year the next 12 year cycle will start from the beginning with the year of the rat. We might have signed the date with 2019 for a whole month by now, but for the Chinese, the new year starts on Monday. I think it is lovely that they have preserved their local traditions even if they otherwise have adopted our 'western' calendar.<br />
<br />
It has been a gloomy week. Bad air quality, cloudy and dark. My studio has still been a cosy place though so I couldn't care less what the weather has been like outside. I've been busy with my colour theory video series, and it has been so much fun putting it together. Who knew it could be so satisfying just mixing colours and making colour charts. It has been meditative.<br />
<br />
The following magpie painting was done to illustrate the use of colours instead of black in a painting. It was also an experiment with a new paper that I got as a gift from my art supply store. There is a big art store department here in Shanghai that houses many small art shops on two floors. I have been returning to one of them lately because of their good quality watercolour supplies to a fair price. Apparently, the sweet girl who runs the shop appreciate that I am returning to her shop, so I got a stack of free watercolour paper earlier this week. I am not sure what kind of paper it is. It behaves like something in between hot and cold pressed paper, and it feels like cotton paper. It is really lovely to work on so I will return to see if they sell this paper as bigger sheets as well.<br />

It has been a good week. I have got quite a bit of work done and also got quite a bit prepared for next week. I have painted with watercolours and even got back into the habit of going to the gym. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the things I have started on is a new series of videos on my Youtube channel. I call it Exploring watercolours, and with it, I hope to teach myself to become a better watercolourist. My hope is that it could be a fun journey for others to follow along with. Because I want the series to be for everyone, I am aiming the first few videos to beginners. The first video is up, and the next video will be posted on Monday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOxxIFf6aLAY8UMy2oqR9DCNspgm0F93Ik10lcCe22Tj1LhrdtFN1VwpHaywzAEZ6XQfSIHQxn4AuF12b4m3_UF4PK_qNwhJPAv4QwamiRHjfnbz9HkC1k_-PX9pgCAJ3x49nkOrZbHXg/s1600/IMG_8653.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOxxIFf6aLAY8UMy2oqR9DCNspgm0F93Ik10lcCe22Tj1LhrdtFN1VwpHaywzAEZ6XQfSIHQxn4AuF12b4m3_UF4PK_qNwhJPAv4QwamiRHjfnbz9HkC1k_-PX9pgCAJ3x49nkOrZbHXg/s640/IMG_8653.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wanted to paint a couple of Avocets (Pied Avocet). I have started an oil painting with these two birds, and I want to see if I can get a clearer image of how I want to proceed with them. I like the composition, I like the colours, but it is a little too 'boring' in my taste. I am seeing something more dynamic in my head.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqgSSgpr9rOb5-xKJPacVK1Pg3qSwAzGbPF2mEsSL3BOSvD5w4E3gi0afqQJN2SduhnrmQSTAQGfPIz-YvhsoahwLtsoYksXAdtJLFiO9KB5V0Y2HsfkG2DlHRYBsURa7w4f4Ilec1VHo/s1600/IMG_8658.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="684" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqgSSgpr9rOb5-xKJPacVK1Pg3qSwAzGbPF2mEsSL3BOSvD5w4E3gi0afqQJN2SduhnrmQSTAQGfPIz-YvhsoahwLtsoYksXAdtJLFiO9KB5V0Y2HsfkG2DlHRYBsURa7w4f4Ilec1VHo/s640/IMG_8658.JPG" width="436" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To try and see if I could change it I added some darker washes and also some brown colours. It is better, but still not what I want.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhELMLCaIgiSJb_9AsnpdrJl-Y5p7dgMwJ3pWC6c_EtqzCLBoCMrGwcSw87WSZq733yB-ZWwbOw7irTi-H8smy2cUB3JLhUFiQJHGEQOUO7LM3c9Npo1_COarDeDczJd3181C16Zj7PdyI/s1600/IMG_8664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhELMLCaIgiSJb_9AsnpdrJl-Y5p7dgMwJ3pWC6c_EtqzCLBoCMrGwcSw87WSZq733yB-ZWwbOw7irTi-H8smy2cUB3JLhUFiQJHGEQOUO7LM3c9Npo1_COarDeDczJd3181C16Zj7PdyI/s640/IMG_8664.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided to start again. This time I painted a background in my art journal and then I cut out the birds from the watercolour painting above and glued them in. This is much closer to the vision in my head. Now I only have to paint them again.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwg83Wy-y5k7yIwR_cDRczrFoEYb8j1rp-E9DlJ4f027bj-MHqB-coS3IEnZ7MbCxpoJa6YMVkbNOhAzfaB673BcrmMuJDkdDBDIY9hCD90buOT_aWKFqt1aa3yh84yL01XU_ma467sWY/s1600/IMG_8665.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwg83Wy-y5k7yIwR_cDRczrFoEYb8j1rp-E9DlJ4f027bj-MHqB-coS3IEnZ7MbCxpoJa6YMVkbNOhAzfaB673BcrmMuJDkdDBDIY9hCD90buOT_aWKFqt1aa3yh84yL01XU_ma467sWY/s640/IMG_8665.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another angle. I do like how this page turned out!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU21SpQRWRZdmubV7xg1IHMZPef7qBcNTzH9bFM_TQFgUwSqGXmDOYttY7B1g9X4U4PBZDL8VqayxbLQ4pfMMaxLYnv1gYbTHRLp64itLu37UoGAxHVtxXG5KzjShDk-CTCqv7HdJ0DgE/s1600/IMG_8655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="684" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU21SpQRWRZdmubV7xg1IHMZPef7qBcNTzH9bFM_TQFgUwSqGXmDOYttY7B1g9X4U4PBZDL8VqayxbLQ4pfMMaxLYnv1gYbTHRLp64itLu37UoGAxHVtxXG5KzjShDk-CTCqv7HdJ0DgE/s640/IMG_8655.JPG" width="436" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was another attempt. On a whole, I like it, except the water ripples. Maybe I will get it right in the next one. I will just keep painting and experimenting until I reach what I want. It's a fun journey to be on for sure!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wish you all a great weekend!</div>

Spending a little time home did me good. Now it feels like my batteries have been recharged and I am full of inspiration again.<br />
<br />
So, what have I been doing in the studio in the week I have been back? I edited the last video I made from home. Lots and lots of short video clips from snow, ice and winter. I will put a link to the video at the end of this post. I also filmed the next video, so now all I have to do is edit that one. I've tidied up a bit and done some planning for the year ahead. Now there is nothing left to do than to start painting. I have several paintings that I need to finish before spring, so there is plenty of work to do.<br />
<br />
My studio looked so nice and cosy this evening that I decided to take some photos of it to share with you.<br />

The Peony is the first painting that I need to finish. It is almost done, just a few details that I want to refine. The bird paintings are personal work so they can wait until I have finished with my commissions.</div>

And just as well, because now I can enjoy these stunning views. In 2 days time, I will fly back to the big city, so being able to enjoy this winter wonderland landscape feels like charging my batteries.<br />
<br />
Some of the views are very similar to what I posted 2 or 3 weeks ago, but this time I had my big camera with me out while walking, so the quality is much better.<br />
<br />
Next week I will be in my studio, so then it will be back to more art related posts again here on the blog! I wish you all a great weekend!<br />

Happy New Year! We have had some spectacular sunsets and sunrises now with the sun being so low here in the north. Intense colours that you only get during winter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We celebrated New Year's eve out at the summer cottage. Then it was time to close the place for the rest of the winter and take up the boat. The ice had had time to set quite thickly in the small harbour though, so we had to take the boat up on the ice to get it onto land... It is a first time for everything I guess. It looked quite funny seeing a boat being dragged along the ice. Now it is safe in storage until spring comes again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been painting a little with watercolours. Not much, but when the weather was such that you did not want to be outside I sat by the fire and spend an hour or two with a brush in hand. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One day it was warmer and even rained a little, so I decided to take out my watercolours.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9yWsi99i3lqTIPK3os2NTy6MtPBU1858YvoiLVeZOWXR_nNDDnY3TldnFMjxTPIQQhGjaCa7ujFpsq-TyfI6CrggjIuAcPMBD-kOrQE4wTrA_kxsaRaz5MBLi_kO99CmxO0WqngoUF3c/s1600/nr1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="513" data-original-width="1000" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9yWsi99i3lqTIPK3os2NTy6MtPBU1858YvoiLVeZOWXR_nNDDnY3TldnFMjxTPIQQhGjaCa7ujFpsq-TyfI6CrggjIuAcPMBD-kOrQE4wTrA_kxsaRaz5MBLi_kO99CmxO0WqngoUF3c/s640/nr1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided to continue with some small watercolour studies of winter landscapes.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTmthhDm3m8jXHNLbsgG28oGLsupEvFp4aKpUIya-r2dPwZfrd1vWvmxOk89h7qCLW2Jrs-RYlslPqcWkaslTxidmhvqcBTABkL4pIGjDmIbCZQkPfCjr5RUZAvlHaDIZVwDkKhkppZMo/s1600/nr2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="481" data-original-width="1000" height="306" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTmthhDm3m8jXHNLbsgG28oGLsupEvFp4aKpUIya-r2dPwZfrd1vWvmxOk89h7qCLW2Jrs-RYlslPqcWkaslTxidmhvqcBTABkL4pIGjDmIbCZQkPfCjr5RUZAvlHaDIZVwDkKhkppZMo/s640/nr2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I find painting sunrises and sunsets a little tricky. The colours are so intense that it is difficult to get it to look 'real' and not like some colourful fantasy landscape. So far I have found that if I paint the colours a little more muted than what they actually are, the painting looks better.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX47Hvl_OCySo_5akut9ntOwpPBdF2vY2T72LXjtanMgoEq17TVtEJLMjxTy9RC4czIjpYddEc99JFHtyyXJrqQTLveJIdCC8vTXSgTdGXepHomoq1rT3mCQ8QaW5-FsYfVwidxikAhAE/s1600/nr3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="486" data-original-width="1000" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX47Hvl_OCySo_5akut9ntOwpPBdF2vY2T72LXjtanMgoEq17TVtEJLMjxTy9RC4czIjpYddEc99JFHtyyXJrqQTLveJIdCC8vTXSgTdGXepHomoq1rT3mCQ8QaW5-FsYfVwidxikAhAE/s640/nr3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one is my favourite of the three. Maybe because I succeeded in getting the colours in better harmony in this one. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5OPPZZOohanQignJCIqurk53W9XRVC2k9EcZ2J_NNYsbqX52QsQPzaiXP0MvnVc_Iwt30euUGIlqY6pBXCCV22atSr-RqZJKW2KDane75MOCxRcz4DQlILsk1qSBeoXsOiTY1XXRL-9I/s1600/upp1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5OPPZZOohanQignJCIqurk53W9XRVC2k9EcZ2J_NNYsbqX52QsQPzaiXP0MvnVc_Iwt30euUGIlqY6pBXCCV22atSr-RqZJKW2KDane75MOCxRcz4DQlILsk1qSBeoXsOiTY1XXRL-9I/s640/upp1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then it was time to take up the boat. The ice was too thick to drive through all the way to the shore, so we had to drag the boat along the ice instead to get it onto land...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVjsdub41jV7-TWcnkbYmNBFnKsE3h0FJdNONFmyeM7vf5S4JSli_951VhvlRTs6tZTef2nW0gau5vlRJ5qDoPP02VsX7-xdf28k-VBADpVI8q808PK4lzvadJ5EkzBiLaDt3ithluDiY/s1600/upp2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="660" data-original-width="1000" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVjsdub41jV7-TWcnkbYmNBFnKsE3h0FJdNONFmyeM7vf5S4JSli_951VhvlRTs6tZTef2nW0gau5vlRJ5qDoPP02VsX7-xdf28k-VBADpVI8q808PK4lzvadJ5EkzBiLaDt3ithluDiY/s640/upp2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Almost there. After this, the guy with the boat trailer came and took the boat to its storage place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfHqVO0xRs1LN1iCCSkw5aTKfOMM7T3potvTqfB2KG7qB4EvVzt-LogJwVCLutRlZWVOe0NmSDRWfmCcfPOMqrRd7Gkb-MUk5VgMt3Kj3EGFmKFjgEdanqY6RAzBr9J6hCSmufr2Jp8HU/s1600/o%25CC%2588.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfHqVO0xRs1LN1iCCSkw5aTKfOMM7T3potvTqfB2KG7qB4EvVzt-LogJwVCLutRlZWVOe0NmSDRWfmCcfPOMqrRd7Gkb-MUk5VgMt3Kj3EGFmKFjgEdanqY6RAzBr9J6hCSmufr2Jp8HU/s640/o%25CC%2588.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I am back in my hometown. Yesterday was a stunning day, and after visiting some old friends I came home to this view. I am hoping for a few more sunny days so that I could get some nice photos. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wish you a great week everyone, and hopefully a great start on the new year!</div>

For the first time in many years, I get to experience a 'real' winter with snow and ice. It is absolutely wonderful. I hadn't realized how much I have missed it. We celebrated Christmas together with our families, and now we are looking forward to the New Year out at the summer cottage. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Greetings from Finland. It has been snowing slowly for a couple of days, so we have a real winter wonderland outside. This means that I am not only painting snow, but I can actually enjoy the crunch while walking outside. I had forgotten how beautiful it could be when everything is covered in white. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today I have some more Christmas cards to share with you. I have really enjoyed painting these, and I even liked the small format. They are all 18x8,5 cm, watercolour on cotton paper. If I remember correctly the reference pictures are all from Pixabay. Now I am off to paint a couple more.</div>

It has been a productive week and I got loads done, which feels very nice. Early morning on Sunday I fly home to Finland. We decided that we wanted to go home for Christmas and New Year this time. I am hoping for cold weather and lots of snow. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But before I leave, here are some of my efforts from this week in the studio:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqDMLp9dpuVhQIVvHKZOfLW_ElqXlueJfa8EECa92uFvHOOB050p_O97hYYC-TwGi9SLgxkSKon3K9HzIH7BmqnSkLZdi_Uhk3KSS3kVLAZGZMDGTxkG6daOgc0qziJFEoA0NL5-6jRYo/s1600/1_artjournal.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqDMLp9dpuVhQIVvHKZOfLW_ElqXlueJfa8EECa92uFvHOOB050p_O97hYYC-TwGi9SLgxkSKon3K9HzIH7BmqnSkLZdi_Uhk3KSS3kVLAZGZMDGTxkG6daOgc0qziJFEoA0NL5-6jRYo/s640/1_artjournal.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pied Avocets in my art journal. Acrylic on a gessoed page. I wanted to try this composition out, and I thought it worked well enough to also try it out on canvas.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDUEXo6zbs5AJB9_YzG0RU_jeedEXtdfBe-rRS2bpIEHiYGmYrBwOrgfqTmHu5FtI0VF_j-l2PBikb_GP0zIQ3DBwqNhLYBlQfg8gwnugcbiIb8L7c-bTuC1_I_ZNN8ods6T37EdCy_ew/s1600/2_canvas.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDUEXo6zbs5AJB9_YzG0RU_jeedEXtdfBe-rRS2bpIEHiYGmYrBwOrgfqTmHu5FtI0VF_j-l2PBikb_GP0zIQ3DBwqNhLYBlQfg8gwnugcbiIb8L7c-bTuC1_I_ZNN8ods6T37EdCy_ew/s640/2_canvas.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first blocking in of oil colours. This is quite new for me, to start painting straight with oils. Usually, I start with an acrylic underpainting. I do like how it looks though. The only drawback is that oil dries so slow. I will have to continue on this after the New Year when I am back in the studio. I covered the canvas first with a pale ochre colour, and I think it is quite nice how it shines through and give the painting warmth. I do not have to cover the whole surface when I continue painting because of it. No wonder why it is recommended to do an underpainting...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikxefrzo7U6gzmqx6JhoNs4BQN6QXH2ENTCXf78pBYATt0-6CsvNFDLXBM6DuJYNATmUZisT6YVsnf9ZcR019l5A8r1ACXfrCN7I5eFhFAQOz6W1NwpctB17Bajs03VmyfzR5LrihG1No/s1600/3_sketchbook.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikxefrzo7U6gzmqx6JhoNs4BQN6QXH2ENTCXf78pBYATt0-6CsvNFDLXBM6DuJYNATmUZisT6YVsnf9ZcR019l5A8r1ACXfrCN7I5eFhFAQOz6W1NwpctB17Bajs03VmyfzR5LrihG1No/s640/3_sketchbook.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thumbnail sketches for winter scenes. I decided that I needed a few Christmas cards, so I sketched a few ideas. I went to Pixabay and searched for 'winter landscape', and then I sketched my favourites. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqw1mS7xa9Lc9tQd3RNrUL4i2tkRlm_6Y0QhYndSnLQWFDITvkfkWShAOBlapf8GgIutBxbagtFGApUjatCJ2eS68Cq50DVEQtGYN39qOc_lA0wn6Ec5Zir_Nz25gfdLkgzz5-85XdtzE/s1600/4_sketchbook.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqw1mS7xa9Lc9tQd3RNrUL4i2tkRlm_6Y0QhYndSnLQWFDITvkfkWShAOBlapf8GgIutBxbagtFGApUjatCJ2eS68Cq50DVEQtGYN39qOc_lA0wn6Ec5Zir_Nz25gfdLkgzz5-85XdtzE/s640/4_sketchbook.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one is quite interesting and will be challenging to paint.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3mIncjgDKMrnQlygHHtMaEMquBd7fP0D_dplASOn5WJJ3Ebt0TYt68iDi5mKlGDISCN-vx2nt0MrAeNunOSeWc-9chfd-_2zTg2uDLIiUMwFsfvrF3no5NkSpGet98wo5HcKBSShsrTU/s1600/5_sketchbook.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3mIncjgDKMrnQlygHHtMaEMquBd7fP0D_dplASOn5WJJ3Ebt0TYt68iDi5mKlGDISCN-vx2nt0MrAeNunOSeWc-9chfd-_2zTg2uDLIiUMwFsfvrF3no5NkSpGet98wo5HcKBSShsrTU/s640/5_sketchbook.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And three more. I think they would all work well for Christmas cards.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE6r79Y947KiBQF-3QLLFSeroQQzpdmo2Q0vnR11Up5pfe-0EGN-k4BPJepF70W8yoqyZqdsF-zQS36xVxXZ4-Ag9vTBEneo6HwseUphcFVRzJ6NfnxLJsVvIExBDPyvlNSa6s2earTNw/s1600/6_christmascard.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE6r79Y947KiBQF-3QLLFSeroQQzpdmo2Q0vnR11Up5pfe-0EGN-k4BPJepF70W8yoqyZqdsF-zQS36xVxXZ4-Ag9vTBEneo6HwseUphcFVRzJ6NfnxLJsVvIExBDPyvlNSa6s2earTNw/s640/6_christmascard.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first design realized. I made two versions of it because I was not happy with the green colour in the clouds on the first one. Next week I will share the rest with you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wish you a great weekend everyone!</div>

The temperature suddenly dropped and it actually snowed. It was absolutely lovely!<br />
<br />
I finally finished my history of watercolour video. It took me much longer than I had expected, but now it is done! I do have the text all written out, so I am thinking of also publishing the text here. But first, here's the video!<br />

I thought that once I reached the 19th and 20th century, it would go faster. But I forgot how much there is to read on the internet. I have been so distracted because I read up on one artist, that will lead me to another, and then another, and suddenly I am just looking at awesome art and forget to write about only those who according to the internet has made an impact on the development of watercolour. I am planning to finally wrap it up tomorrow so that I can start recording and putting all the images together.<br />
I never thought it would be so time-consuming. Well, I guess it wouldn't have been as time-consuming if I wouldn't be so easily distracted...<br />
<br />
Anyway. December. It has been an unusually warm winter here in Shanghai. That is why I am even more looking forward to travelling home to Finland for Christmas and New Year in 2 weeks time. I'm hoping for snow and minus degrees, but it will be awesome either way.<br />
<br />
Not much done at all in the studio this week, so that was it for me! Have a great Sunday everyone!Jenny Moed-Korpelahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606892768486269110noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1675381421746759431.post-48335751959392055692018-11-24T01:03:00.001+08:002018-11-24T01:03:42.890+08:00A few fun facts about pigments and paper.I am working on a new video for my youtube channel, the history of watercolour. It is taking much more time than it should though. I am almost finished now, however, just the last 100 years to go... I know, I know, it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but I do want to check all the facts so that I will present as accurate historical facts as I can find. There are many fun and interesting facts about the history of watercolour based paint, and their pigments, and the paper, and the... well, you get the picture. It is easy to get lost and just continue reading all day...<br />
<br />
Here are a few interesting facts I did not know:<br />
<br />
The ancient Egyptians already used watercolour. That is, pigment mixed with a glue-like gum. So not much has actually changed in the history of watercolours, except for what we are painting on.<br />
<br />
Did you know that the first chemically produced pigment is about 4000 years old (or more) and is the Egyptian Blue from, you guessed it, ancient Egypt. At this time they were otherwise only using natural pigments, earth pigments like ochre or precious and half precious stone like Lapis Lapsuli. The problem with the blue pigment that they got from either Lapis Lapsuli or Azurite was that is was not locally found, and very expensive. The ancient Egyptian did love their blue for painting though, so they started to manufacture their own blue pigment. Don't ask me how, it was by combining existing minerals they did have.<br />
<br />
Some of the best red pigments you could get during the middle ages were made from insects.<br />
<br />
When we talk about 'fresco' paintings, I always assumed it meant simply wall paintings. Not so. Fresco is a term that is generally used for wall painting, but if you want to be picky and absolutely correct, fresco painting means painting with pigment mixed with water in a thin layer of wet plaster on a wall. The paintings you find in ancient Greece and Italy ( like Pompei) are frescoes, as is the famous ceiling in the Sixtine chapel by Michelangelo. The wall paintings in the tombs of ancient Egypt are mostly made in Fresco-secco. (secco meaning 'dry'). Fresco-secco is when you paint with a version of Tempera paint (pigment with egg as a binder) on a dry wall, and possibly sealed with a varnish. Leonardo Da Vinci is said to have painted his famous 'The last supper' in fresco-secco. The only reason I could find for it is that plaster dry very quickly in a hot climate, and some of the pigments do not adhere well into wet plaster. Especially the blue pigment that the Egyptians loved. Even in more recent frescoes, if you see a strong dark blue colour on a fresco wall painting, it is most probably added with a tempera paint last when the wall was dry.<br />
<br />
The most used paper before the 15th century was made of parchment (stretched animal skin) To put it into perspective how much the modern paper influenced the bookmaking and artists: <span style="font-family: Cambria; font-size: 12pt;">A bible made from parchment required skins from about 250 sheep, and if it was illustrated, it could take a few years to complete. Wow!</span><br />
Our modern recipe for paper came from China and reached Europe in the 12th century. It was mostly made of linen and cotton rags until the 17th century. It took Europe about 300 years to trust this new paper, as they did not trust that this 'modity' was of any good quality. In the end, the economy won over quality.<br />
The paper press was invented in the 1450-s and the first daily newspaper was published in 1702. After that, the demand on paper became so big that there were not enough linen and cotton rags to make paper of. That is when they started to use tree pulp for making paper in Europe.<br />
<br />
One of the first papermills in Europe was started in Fabriano in Italy in the 13th century. Sounds familiar? Well, they are still making paper!<br />
<br />
The first time it is mentioned in writing how they made a brush in Europe, is from the 'Artists handbook' by Cennino Cennini, written in the late 15th century or early 16th century. There are pictures if not words in how parchment was made from quite early on, but nobody seems to have thought that it was important to document how brushes were made.<br />
<br />
I could go on, but as I will publish this video next week, you just have to wait until then!<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend everyone!<br />

Sometimes I wish that I had an additional degree in how to fix computers. I am totally inept when it comes to solving any problems that may occur on my computer. This morning I woke up to find that my computer for some reason had decided to upgrade itself during the night (I must have pushed the button 'later tonight' instead of 'remind me tomorrow') and got stuck in the process. The 'command-option-esc' delivered no help what so ever. I restarted, I googled for other ideas, but I simply could not get away from the failed to install window. So I called our local Apple store for help. I got a great lady on the other end, and she took me through several different steps and ways to go around my frozen window. I have no clue what I actually did, I just followed her instructions. I got into a special startup mode where I tried a couple of different things, and after running the 'first aid' I was able to install the newest software without the computer freezing on me. It took a while to install, but then everything went back to normal and my computer is working again. I have no inkling as to what was wrong with it in the first place. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was worried for a while though because I worked late last night on my next youtube video project (The history of watercolours), and I knew that my latest back up was from earlier in the day... But luckily it did not come to that. Computers! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So instead of working on my video project today, I painted a small robin. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHegLdYHi8z19gaWh-B_FY2hnEWzMtCVtnscJJHDA3DQlx1NN9LVY3Qc8BLUtXl_BbW1hdsb4fqjOJHDyk08JXePvHDvyNeNPUvkOxrETu-lMtK_gev3az3NMZe_aH1uJlJ2gFKsqIqXw/s1600/2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="752" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHegLdYHi8z19gaWh-B_FY2hnEWzMtCVtnscJJHDA3DQlx1NN9LVY3Qc8BLUtXl_BbW1hdsb4fqjOJHDyk08JXePvHDvyNeNPUvkOxrETu-lMtK_gev3az3NMZe_aH1uJlJ2gFKsqIqXw/s640/2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
'Quit the installer' it says, well good luck with that when nothing whatsoever happens. I restarted but came back to this window. I am so happy the issue was resolved thanks to the lovely Grace from the Apple store!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I felt like painting something small and sweet today. I chose a cotton paper postcard, and it became a robin. I will probably go by the Apple store tomorrow and give it to Grace as a thank you for the help. It can not be easy to solve a computer problem over the phone with me on the other end... 😁</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Earlier this week I finished this small landscape study in oil. I liked the underpainting better so I will use this as a reference for a bigger painting. And I think I will paint it with acrylic paint. But lest see. I have a few more of these small studies in progress, so I am trying out different ways to paint them.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7xNODIoc_O9pR0sGgGSbrmbg9Th-Mopq2LPQ4nqdLhPu3Ku2u7VZftvCALs6MoYarw1lZJFHD1fMMJdkknnYyvyWFN-PfPBNNDBLZWyqN2OzMWqSoNncOd4r1a8WiHAmH9jdPIRDHO8A/s1600/4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7xNODIoc_O9pR0sGgGSbrmbg9Th-Mopq2LPQ4nqdLhPu3Ku2u7VZftvCALs6MoYarw1lZJFHD1fMMJdkknnYyvyWFN-PfPBNNDBLZWyqN2OzMWqSoNncOd4r1a8WiHAmH9jdPIRDHO8A/s640/4.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This painting has got a second layer of oil. Hopefully, a third layer will be enough for the background so that I can start painting the flying swans on it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1N_Sd9dG3fPD4SJ_T0jv5vcU-xjXp5mzlcF0X7hDx2f3Ia5Bh9WP1Kz4ZXrqk_GkCFVb7g-jXMsRf7Qp5oec1e5xeimIJeSoX37qn0ZAAKqIOHow-voOZpt9qX0fAxg7N72HJmF9P6F0/s1600/5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1N_Sd9dG3fPD4SJ_T0jv5vcU-xjXp5mzlcF0X7hDx2f3Ia5Bh9WP1Kz4ZXrqk_GkCFVb7g-jXMsRf7Qp5oec1e5xeimIJeSoX37qn0ZAAKqIOHow-voOZpt9qX0fAxg7N72HJmF9P6F0/s640/5.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sketchbook. I had some ideas for an Avocet painting. Now I'm thinking that I should do it in the same format and size as the eider so that it would be a series. I need to sketch some more!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last I have the video I made of painting the robin earlier today.</div>

Today was the first day that I had to put on long legged trousers and a thick sweater... Just in one week, the temperature dropped. It's officially autumn now!<br />
<br />
I've been painting and planning in the studio. Here are some of my efforts:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWbfCf_diuFyHwJ-XO_3zqeQqkKmJoSUDrcBY3myZs9FZ89kePQE9OhE4diTYpYNgK3wqmb2EGHWQ9z0Hrq2J_gjDt1vMaA0_fq-mBa2QmNuv_32YAmYJ_Usu578AFQcB4rkCysC61T-Y/s1600/1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWbfCf_diuFyHwJ-XO_3zqeQqkKmJoSUDrcBY3myZs9FZ89kePQE9OhE4diTYpYNgK3wqmb2EGHWQ9z0Hrq2J_gjDt1vMaA0_fq-mBa2QmNuv_32YAmYJ_Usu578AFQcB4rkCysC61T-Y/s640/1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First: a small canvas where I am trying out the swan idea with oil on canvas. This is the first blocking in of oil colours over an acrylic underpainting. Next layer will be less blue and more grey - brownish. If I like it, I will try it on a bigger canvas next.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9F7amuqBp7WjfChDgBiBKy7FLUOewPDeluPxeIe5wAGY2T_OFRXY65K3IGoz2vW5rZl_9sGjcjrPucRWi_nZQDxrDSL3ru7qI1DvoMB-ZAMwaVwWH-PjDuLYO_um-6GyDN2kPdHNbAE0/s1600/2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9F7amuqBp7WjfChDgBiBKy7FLUOewPDeluPxeIe5wAGY2T_OFRXY65K3IGoz2vW5rZl_9sGjcjrPucRWi_nZQDxrDSL3ru7qI1DvoMB-ZAMwaVwWH-PjDuLYO_um-6GyDN2kPdHNbAE0/s640/2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I have been trying out some landscape ideas on small canvases. I started with acrylic an acrylic underpainting. Idea from my small watercolour sketches.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixpfr2rEgSMsOLlg4eR48D2Eup7EVRV5Gy_-6QZQJbdhsKiQjrLJRyx-uHG7BiBB7FNS21rvdAyoAIpz-W9yiDdn0HR-i2_RaiRKxp-9m1WKbHvMW0hzttuiiwxMemmhxPryjV5w3b6as/s1600/3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixpfr2rEgSMsOLlg4eR48D2Eup7EVRV5Gy_-6QZQJbdhsKiQjrLJRyx-uHG7BiBB7FNS21rvdAyoAIpz-W9yiDdn0HR-i2_RaiRKxp-9m1WKbHvMW0hzttuiiwxMemmhxPryjV5w3b6as/s640/3.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step two, one more layer of acrylic colours.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXjfpDQPZkBWDaoxF4hjDENQo6QZTfbCjX54bhnzOgtWuHku9bBGyV2qA22EzV9y9bupgQULmWA5wc8wKAXlPBj3uT3z6-zoOHbZn9DohDWRfMZzVA014432WRfYnLeDlB8aejDjbWpPE/s1600/4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXjfpDQPZkBWDaoxF4hjDENQo6QZTfbCjX54bhnzOgtWuHku9bBGyV2qA22EzV9y9bupgQULmWA5wc8wKAXlPBj3uT3z6-zoOHbZn9DohDWRfMZzVA014432WRfYnLeDlB8aejDjbWpPE/s640/4.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step three, the first layer of oil colours. When this layer has dried, it will get the final layer and then it is done. I am not sure I like the oil painting on this, I think I preferred the acrylic underpainting. Well, you never know if you do not try and experiment. Next painting will be finished with only acrylic colours I think. Just so that I can compare them side by side.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf3hFhXljP846M0rY1_kDBFVOKyn1_cG0DKlBM-0vr_xPG4uRgI6nzS6Khr7VhaShXgloigvLG8XOPrq1gHyPjNrsWxtl9nH-1BN39x3A-tKqpZjD43oLsEOMaSCV3M1YCak1-CFN-tS8/s1600/5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf3hFhXljP846M0rY1_kDBFVOKyn1_cG0DKlBM-0vr_xPG4uRgI6nzS6Khr7VhaShXgloigvLG8XOPrq1gHyPjNrsWxtl9nH-1BN39x3A-tKqpZjD43oLsEOMaSCV3M1YCak1-CFN-tS8/s640/5.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have been playing around in my big art journal for more landscapes compositions. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj10-6W0HzxuaNsTi7O3cF40xBFWG09UNtInUA6Le_-IczlGxgPiexYJCKH-lTC_Xg1QwdnNax9PU9lL1FhjnlCN-nizRn-2Ef02yxK7O_s090aaODQwfK3nlWHV96VlnHw0suIWpbSW6w/s1600/6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj10-6W0HzxuaNsTi7O3cF40xBFWG09UNtInUA6Le_-IczlGxgPiexYJCKH-lTC_Xg1QwdnNax9PU9lL1FhjnlCN-nizRn-2Ef02yxK7O_s090aaODQwfK3nlWHV96VlnHw0suIWpbSW6w/s640/6.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The paintings in my art journal are more abstract. I like that. The only thing I have noticed though is that it is very hard to get a nice texture going on such a small scale. If I want to try out this more abstract way of approaching landscapes on canvas, I need to do it bigger.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxMNLh6q3cF44woHQfdqZiVJV_WenfMs7EdwTDaf3NNy9Fi7WPfDQWjbTv4AD8KO_T4La7AgWltV9FbjJ2RFnZzHA8tKwehIVWw4sYEvyfOTNyzdUWnxKIGSS994A1e53p_JKsAlDyXDM/s1600/7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxMNLh6q3cF44woHQfdqZiVJV_WenfMs7EdwTDaf3NNy9Fi7WPfDQWjbTv4AD8KO_T4La7AgWltV9FbjJ2RFnZzHA8tKwehIVWw4sYEvyfOTNyzdUWnxKIGSS994A1e53p_JKsAlDyXDM/s640/7.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All these are done with acrylic on a gessoed page.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhELPEFNArY3GTlIjmZFtHya4gOP2ygQiKRjOqqaWcz_NwBC1sIHemdvZSS94X9oWT8HKZsj0Qq2ppHruTLiKKHVeGl-vxCvFZIbOzDqOsryzoR0XgP0z9cYLdQQQMkkqVQ1Ha47tWCGfs/s1600/8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhELPEFNArY3GTlIjmZFtHya4gOP2ygQiKRjOqqaWcz_NwBC1sIHemdvZSS94X9oWT8HKZsj0Qq2ppHruTLiKKHVeGl-vxCvFZIbOzDqOsryzoR0XgP0z9cYLdQQQMkkqVQ1Ha47tWCGfs/s640/8.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last I have a bird project. I decided that I wanted to paint the eider from my smaller art journal on a big (or not so big, but bigger than usual for me lately, 50x50cm) canvas. It is square, so I did a few thumbnails sketches to try out different compositions.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-vw_gGufhvgIaS2RrreRlz28qzKena7pVo8rgtR8Q9QvIE3z3UufNI91R5g0hiab6uiLWk41zISO9NafLkuV6LYWYRoASTwtjDEQzmoiFwYdlzz2qZsPSJTedX4kIodFb_Gg-knfzmpw/s1600/9.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-vw_gGufhvgIaS2RrreRlz28qzKena7pVo8rgtR8Q9QvIE3z3UufNI91R5g0hiab6uiLWk41zISO9NafLkuV6LYWYRoASTwtjDEQzmoiFwYdlzz2qZsPSJTedX4kIodFb_Gg-knfzmpw/s640/9.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first 2 compositions. I like the one to the left.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZbyHzrmbe3hugRHi9RKbS6jyV6cN7yE77NFTwvBMi_LGWjv6pucr29nplcVq9E6yg50EicW-Nd3GGBBsfiEQTmF513DqNdjlFaxEAKnCF7i6mb2UHYK5xvIImyGvyny1ol6BaKkpaZRk/s1600/10.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZbyHzrmbe3hugRHi9RKbS6jyV6cN7yE77NFTwvBMi_LGWjv6pucr29nplcVq9E6yg50EicW-Nd3GGBBsfiEQTmF513DqNdjlFaxEAKnCF7i6mb2UHYK5xvIImyGvyny1ol6BaKkpaZRk/s640/10.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next spread, and again I like the one to the left. The one to the right is not bad, but would be better on a landscape format canvas. That is why I changed the thumbnail and there are two outlines. I asked online on Instagram and Facebook which one of these four you would prefer, and nr 3, so the one to the left here got absolutely the most votes. Since I myself really could not decide between this one and the one from the previous spread I that I liked, I went with the popular one. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu6P8xeDTazAKuwtkgHosN-Lir13arH9kpSlS665YY0Sm2r68Bp-sj3ggA1tVZ5xhYcTo32ZeYJYhuuW8OwOzhrt2AkK9MOHMIYFyvYtKnzU13MchUploE417SyWVB77PlR4WXi-hs9OY/s1600/11.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu6P8xeDTazAKuwtkgHosN-Lir13arH9kpSlS665YY0Sm2r68Bp-sj3ggA1tVZ5xhYcTo32ZeYJYhuuW8OwOzhrt2AkK9MOHMIYFyvYtKnzU13MchUploE417SyWVB77PlR4WXi-hs9OY/s640/11.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And here is the first blocking in with oil colours on canvas. 50x50 cm. Now I have a few days time to decide how much water versus land I want while this layer dries. So, to be continued!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I do enjoy this time of year. I also prefer to paint with the limited colour palette that the winter season offers. I have a few new pages in my art journals to share with you today.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Swimming whooper swans. I will probably do a few more versions of this to try out different ways of painting the background. Watercolour on gessoed paper. ( All swan paintings today are from beautiful photo references from Pixabay.)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Whooper swans on a field. I know it is autumn know, but for some reason, I am thinking of these pictures as very early spring when the swans return from the south and find that they have come a little too early and the fields are still covered with a little snow. Watercolour on gessoed paper.</div>

Same field, but with the swans flying away. This time acrylic paints. I am trying to decide if I want to paint these with watercolours or with acrylics and oils on canvas. I have started two small canvases just to try the idea out. Next week I should have got those far enough to show you here.</div>

A picture of my desk I really liked, and here you can see the whole art journal spread.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also decided to move my desk to the window. It is so much better this way, and I have lots of more natural light when I'm working at my desk. I do not know why I have not done it earlier.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Playing around with some landscapes. Acrylic on a gessoed page. I think I would like to paint this big, and just have fun with abstract patterns while still keeping it a visible landscape.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Same idea here. I added a poem from Bo Carpelan about the evening.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a lake I used to live close by. Again, just playing around with different approaches to paint a landscape.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Version 2. The first was painted with a brush, this one with a palette knife. Both acrylics on gessoed paper. I think I would like to go even more re abstract though. So I just need to go on playing and experimenting until I am satisfied with how it looks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That was me for this week. I hope you all have enjoyed a great Halloween for those of you who celebrated it and have a great weekend everyone!</div>

So far Inktober has been great for creating a daily drawing habit. I do believe though that this will be the last week that I will give my drawings the hashtag #inktober. I will continue my daily drawings, but I will return to my 'normal' mediums of just pencil and watercolours. As I already have achieved my goal of drawing every day (which was my main reason to join Inktober), I do not see the point of continuing using ink just for Inktobers sake. Yes, I know that the 'official' Inktober rules do say that you do not have to use ink to be a part of this challenge, but for me, it would feel weird to post a watercolour sketch and call it a part of Inktober. You know, INKtober... And, not to mention that the last week of this month I will not be drawing anything. I will be in Indonesia and celebrating Halloween with my bestie! So I will have to continue my daily drawing habit when I return to the studio.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, enough about that. It is getting cooler outside, and I love it! Welcome autumn! On to this week's drawings:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgslIDbvl2y8zIn58yKgioMsmqwOPomalhFjR83hblbkhLt-F1nMIJ26Oqvd7WsvS8BVLA4DrSZXxsltZHJTvA6N_SylotUOWaSE1vTEyl4xho1JkSaQK2o29ZQ6ESFTkEt9Zg61DmTkOs/s1600/13.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgslIDbvl2y8zIn58yKgioMsmqwOPomalhFjR83hblbkhLt-F1nMIJ26Oqvd7WsvS8BVLA4DrSZXxsltZHJTvA6N_SylotUOWaSE1vTEyl4xho1JkSaQK2o29ZQ6ESFTkEt9Zg61DmTkOs/s640/13.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Long-tailed tit. (ref with kind permission from Peter Skillen) Ink drawing and then a pale watercolour wash over it. I have painted this bird before, and I will probably paint it again. Sometimes I really like to take the same subject and try it out in different ways. This particular bird is one of them.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNjPiD-tDtHhptX6vINVKiurB8wuDYmDQo6zHvzIYOwzLWpERMkRQOw-LgLy26ZjFe8Nxrn8aFszRfZJ02-pA15IQjyckXNXLGjlU3Cgrjh8d05KacPqCEMve8wG1uFIFNfiJNCXb69fw/s1600/14.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="678" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNjPiD-tDtHhptX6vINVKiurB8wuDYmDQo6zHvzIYOwzLWpERMkRQOw-LgLy26ZjFe8Nxrn8aFszRfZJ02-pA15IQjyckXNXLGjlU3Cgrjh8d05KacPqCEMve8wG1uFIFNfiJNCXb69fw/s640/14.JPG" width="432" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Something different. A moose. Ink drawing and watercolours. I really enjoyed this. I had forgotten how fun it could be to paint big mammals. I used to paint a lot of big mammals when I was young. Especially the African wildlife was a favourite subject of mine then. Maybe I need to paint bigger wildlife a little more...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZWkX8LD1mnZ5hRfO0OKehIrYhGlal9Po70Yl2HOQ4Q6udLS7LzAnpzrcYW6gv0pu_xerE6eFq9kerT8xhPa0lSz8uqeUBewqXopKKTg61oneFquI7B7Ia5VAOa_YEOO7snpq9B7_l338/s1600/15.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="676" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZWkX8LD1mnZ5hRfO0OKehIrYhGlal9Po70Yl2HOQ4Q6udLS7LzAnpzrcYW6gv0pu_xerE6eFq9kerT8xhPa0lSz8uqeUBewqXopKKTg61oneFquI7B7Ia5VAOa_YEOO7snpq9B7_l338/s640/15.JPG" width="432" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Red hooded crane. Ink and acrylic inks. The acrylic inks do bleed beautifully, but they are a little too potent in my taste. So I might as well just use my watercolours. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBCovKeglAx3uDoMG0rcDSo3CcBIlj9S_Ld3fnWIOlTpRwqXRtSYGqdviHdDKPj_aMmhVlnBEEx6akiu6A1AwepvioftYyCVE51C3WDA4Bxay-qOFitnMILEYI2WklJHYPBYsjFk3eNDA/s1600/16.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBCovKeglAx3uDoMG0rcDSo3CcBIlj9S_Ld3fnWIOlTpRwqXRtSYGqdviHdDKPj_aMmhVlnBEEx6akiu6A1AwepvioftYyCVE51C3WDA4Bxay-qOFitnMILEYI2WklJHYPBYsjFk3eNDA/s640/16.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Inspired by the Moose, I chose to paint another mammal, this time a wolf. Except for the muzzle being too big and with the wrong angle, and the paws being too small, I like it! I can see it as a watercolour painting, see the bigger picture of the thumbnail below.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh11Q8cBVWZeiv9jgxOLEtVKEvzdvsUABpEc6i7A2EDVPEjXmfNrgygElD8p7S0-SlzIuWr1B9z250TAs5Z40TRfS_qnoV3m-traXpViXXOf9vkt6SBlrOdRJXNidu3puUnKgFmTT56kzk/s1600/16h.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh11Q8cBVWZeiv9jgxOLEtVKEvzdvsUABpEc6i7A2EDVPEjXmfNrgygElD8p7S0-SlzIuWr1B9z250TAs5Z40TRfS_qnoV3m-traXpViXXOf9vkt6SBlrOdRJXNidu3puUnKgFmTT56kzk/s640/16h.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thumbnail suggestion for a watercolour painting with this wolf.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Waxwing with a poem by Edith Södergran about autumn. Ink drawing and acrylic inks. That would be an idea, illustrate poems my way and make it into a book...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOLdYbcLOx_FHbbn604Ab64GkeN_vF7uZQVLrSeXj2AMBDi03YJJRrJsDsRYgZUPeRUaUBHqoV3pnUXasMqb-tLaxDvVfJVvSziuRusizN4gWZD0JeE9mvNBuEkebmdWQUC5YwoP1bKwo/s1600/18.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOLdYbcLOx_FHbbn604Ab64GkeN_vF7uZQVLrSeXj2AMBDi03YJJRrJsDsRYgZUPeRUaUBHqoV3pnUXasMqb-tLaxDvVfJVvSziuRusizN4gWZD0JeE9mvNBuEkebmdWQUC5YwoP1bKwo/s640/18.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The same Kingfisher 2 ways. Ink drawing and watercolours to the left, and Ink drawing and acrylic inks to the right. Experimenting with different styles. This was yesterday, and that is when I decided to abandon at least the acrylic inks as it is not working for me. I still had fun experimenting, but none of these is something I can see myself taking further.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfkUu31DuUP8UKKDCb9E6hTKam64F6pBm1V-s2CcRE1uCTcJ1EaZshm0R8SK6-rGy7lyl9-NicArFB89BLwXx3j_HX4h-hgnQvm5FNDAu006yn_CXUg-MXVNxckpmyH_Y8ifx4uNQE_mI/s1600/19.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfkUu31DuUP8UKKDCb9E6hTKam64F6pBm1V-s2CcRE1uCTcJ1EaZshm0R8SK6-rGy7lyl9-NicArFB89BLwXx3j_HX4h-hgnQvm5FNDAu006yn_CXUg-MXVNxckpmyH_Y8ifx4uNQE_mI/s640/19.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A daily drawing does not always have to bee something detailed or take a long time. It can be just a few lines and a dash of watercolours. A way of quickly getting your idea down on paper to be developed further at a later time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The poem is by Tord Ericsson, and freely translated it goes something like:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
" The call is searching through the night from somewhere to nowhere." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I thought it fitted perfectly with this barn owl!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
